I just love when a bride contacts me wanting to have something really unique and amazing for their wedding dress!!  I was super excited when Melbourne bride, Bianca, asked me to create a coloured tea length wedding dress and a 50s inspired wedding coat also in a colour but featuring a pattern! Bianca scoured the internet for her dream fabrics and chose a stunning dark red for her 3/4 length sleeved tea length gown and for her coat she found… Read more »

50s inspired soft polka dot tulle tea length wedding dress - Silver Sixpence

This super cute dress was my very last custom design that was shipped off before I finished up for 2014 and what a gorgeous dress it was!  Hayley contacted me as she had noticed one of my discontinued Retro Bride designs and really loved the design but wanted to make some custom changes as she really loved the idea of polka dots.  What we came up with was this lovely 50s inspired soft polka dot tulle tea length wedding dress…. Dottie - Polka Dot Vintage Inspired Tea Length Wedding Dress

I really do love working with slightly unconventional fabrics when it comes to wedding dresses and one that I really love is cotton.  I’m currently working on a brand new vintage inspired wedding dress design aptly named “Dottie”.  For this gown I’m using the very popular illusion bateau neckline under a sweetheart bodice with a large polka dot tulle overlay.  All of the under-dress as well as lining is made from cotton making the dress much more breathable than the… Read more »

Silver Sixpence 50s inspired tea length wedding dress with collar

I recently loaned one of my 50s inspired tea length designs, Betty, to industry friends for a very special shoot shoot.  In the lead up to the launch of Holden Oldies’ newly renovated mint and cream vintage holden wedding car they created a gorgeous inspiration shoot.  The gorgeous images photographed by Millyjane Photography were featured on the Vintage Bride website recently and I thought it only fitting to share some of them on my own blog with you all now…. Caitlin 50s Lace & Tulle Tea Length Wedding Dress

A few weeks ago I completed the gorgeous lace and tulle vintage inspired tea length wedding dress for Caitlin.  She now has the gown and is on the countdown until her big day in a few months in regional Victoria (and if I were her I’d be secretly doing dress ups every few days!!) So last post I had completed the bodice and was about to cut and sew on the full circle skirt with the gathered tulle overlay.  Once… Read more »

Silver Sixpence - Caitlin's 50s inspired lace and tulle tea length wedding dress

As a new addition to the Silver Sixpence website, after plenty of time meaning to get around to this I am starting to showcase snippets of the process behind some of the bespoke gowns that I’m working on from time to time. One of the gowns that I’m currently working on at the moment is Caitlin’s 50s inspired lace and tulle tea length wedding dress. I’ve been absolutely dying to get started on this design since we first met many… Read more »

I love a bride who opts for a dress that is more their personality and doesnt want to confirm with the traditional concept of a wedding dress.  It’s always exciting for me when I meet a bride who is after a short, chic dress for their wedding day! I recently heard from one of my previous brides who was one of these girl who chose a short wedding dress and just loved getting to see the pictures of her all… Read more »

There has been a flurry of paper patterns, thread and fabrics recently as I put together a very exciting new line for Silver Sixpence.  Skirts!!!  Yes I know the idea of separates for a bride is nothing new, although in the past it’s still been an overall gown, just with a separate corset bodice generally over a skirt. Now this is something really different…. just plain and simple skirts that as you can see can be teamed up with cute… Read more »

1950s Wedding Dress Design Inspiration

A while back I shared some happy snaps taken of the custom dress that I created for the gorgeous Eve’s high school formal.  She chose a design from a very rare 50s sewing pattern that featured Audrey Hepburn modelling the Givenchy design (McCall’s 3788): Her proud mum just sent me through some pictures of Eve all dressed up on the day for me to share with you all.   I think you will all agree that Eve looked absolutely stunning… Read more »

As some of you may know I recently teamed up with Kim from Hermia’s Wishes to create The Vintage and Handmade Bride and together we have been crazy busy…. Now despite having packed up my work room to create little Caleb’s “nursery” (and I use that word very loosely as apart from a bassinette and a change table there is absolutely nothing nursery like about the poor fellas makeshift bedroom!) I was clever enough to keep my machines and basic… Read more »
