Well they say a change is as good as a holiday, however I’m not too sure when the change involves moving – my least favourite thing to do ever! I am packing up all of my gowns and veils and will be moving premises over the next few weeks.  I do apologise for the inconvenience while I move premises.  The showroom will be closed from Saturday 14th November and will reopen on Thursday 27th November in our new location of… Read more »

One of my recent brides, Victoria, fell in love with the idea of a pale pink polka dot wedding dress and I agree that it is such a stunning design for a wedding dress. Her gown was made from dupion silk in “Cherub Pink” with an ivory tulle overlay with small white flocked polka dots.  The bodice had a really flattering sweetheart neckline and all in one capped sleeves.  The skirt is an eternally fashionable full circle skirt that offers… Read more »

I love a bride who opts for a dress that is more their personality and doesnt want to confirm with the traditional concept of a wedding dress.  It’s always exciting for me when I meet a bride who is after a short, chic dress for their wedding day! I recently heard from one of my previous brides who was one of these girl who chose a short wedding dress and just loved getting to see the pictures of her all… Read more »

There has been a flurry of paper patterns, thread and fabrics recently as I put together a very exciting new line for Silver Sixpence.  Skirts!!!  Yes I know the idea of separates for a bride is nothing new, although in the past it’s still been an overall gown, just with a separate corset bodice generally over a skirt. Now this is something really different…. just plain and simple skirts that as you can see can be teamed up with cute… Read more »

The use of “alternative” materials for bridal gowns is really gaining momentum at the moment and I’m often receiving enquiries about cotton gowns.   Not only does it make the price of the gown that little bit more affordable but they are also lovely breathable garments that you can even wash yourself after the big day instead of the $300+ dry cleaning bill that most cleaners charge as soon as you say the words “wedding dress”! Recently I had the… Read more »

Today is the first of my “Vintage Inspired Bridal Gown Design Days” – I have my collection of vintage wedding books and fashion history books together to bring along for my brides to flick through for inspiration and I’m looking forward to a lovely afternoon of chatting about vintage fashion and working through vintage inspired design ideas for the select group of brides coming along! For my vintage pattern of the week I thought I would share this little gem:… Read more »

This week we go back to the roaring 20s with this gorgeous flapper style pattern: This pattern would look stunning made up in a lovely crepe backed silk satin or a double sided silk satin with the belt made from the same fabric and then a gorgeous vintage style diamante clasp at the front to add a little splash of bling. The bow details on the shoulder could be from ribbon or pieces of silk chiffon (or completely left off… Read more »

I recently had an order for my 1954 Oscars dress in a standard size in the silver / ivory embroidered organza option so I thought I’d take some happy snaps and share it all with you for those who aren’t into gold (plus I only have very limited amounts available in the gold as the fabric is now discontinued). Instead of placing it over a cream dupion silk, the bride and I chose to go with a more ivory shade… Read more »
