Now this is a hairstyle dear to my heart – I just think the fabulous look of victory rolls completely sums up old world glamour. This hairstyle was insanely popular in the 1940s – women’s fashion was very simple due to rationing during the war so creative women started to add flair to their hairstyle to compensate for their simple clothing.  Generally I wouldn’t add a traditional veil to this style, but perhaps more of a short birdcage veil or… Read more »

So many times the poor old groom is overlooked during wedding planning but when it comes to vintage inspired weddings I think it is really important that the groom looks and feels the part as well. The inspiration pictures I have included in this post are by no means authentic vintage wedding wear for men.  In days gone by, grooms wear was very traditional and the type of suit that he wore was dictated by the time of day of… Read more »

After returning from her fabulous honeymoon in Peru, my stunning bride Kimberly has shared with me some pictures of her recent wedding.  She chose the 1950s style wedding dress “Ava” by Silver Sixpence but wanted a splash of colour so the contrasting sash and bodice inserts are in hot pink with an ivory duchess silk satin gown. Kim & Milans story: “Milan and I met in 2001 at work while going to university.  After a few months of hanging out… Read more »

Here are a few happy snaps taken in my overcrowded work room of one of my recent custom gowns.  Kristen came to me via my mum after she read an SOS email requesting a dressmaker.  As fate may have it she was after an Audrey Hepburn inspired gown which is my specialty!!  Kristen is a Toowoomba girl (my home town!) so after several weekends of coming to Brisbane for fittings her dream finally became a reality. The gown is made… Read more »

My husband and I just love architechture of the grand old days and have spent much of our holidays in the US doing walking tours admiring charming southern buildings and touring some of the houses that are open to the public.  While on our last trip we said to each other that it is pretty terrible that we haven’t gone to visit any of our own local homes that are open – so about a year ago (pre-baby!) we went… Read more »

I recently heard from one of my lovely Melbourne brides who I did a custom bouquet order for just before I took maternity leave for my little son.  She wanted bouquets to match her gown and bridesmaids in varying shades of silver/grey and loved the idea of scattered Swarovski crystals throughout her bouquets.  Jess’s fabulous Melbourne based photographer, Elise from Elise Kapeller Photography, has kindly shared these amazing pictures of Jess and her gorgeous wedding: For more information on Elise’s stunning… Read more »

Ok… after much anticipation this new album of Tony Bennett singing swinging tunes with other famous musicians is finally out and of course I had to have it. Tony Bennett – Duets II – Available through Amazon.com Now I’m a little biased on this aspect of weddings but I think you just can’t go past some great jazz tunes as a soundtrack for a fabulous vintage inspired wedding.  Contemporary songs come and go but jazz tunes are just classics that… Read more »

There are soooo many options for great venues in Brisbane for brides who aren’t wanting to have a religious church ceremony. From time to time I’ll do a little feature on some of the great venues that our great city has to offer that are in keeping with a vintage/rustic themed wedding. The first cab off the rank is the historic Broadway Chapel which is a non-denominational chapel located in a hidden away little suburban street in Woolloongabba.  Not only… Read more »
